Boy Scout Mom
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this for my son who is a Boy Scout and goes camping every month. He does like to have this item with him - nice changeup from oatmeal.

This is the first dehydrated meal I've ever had. Just tried it this weekend while camping and was very pleasantly surprised. I guess I was expecting either really slimy tasteless eggs or something with a chalky/powdery texture. I followed the instructions on the bag and was ready to have a bland breakfast, but then my first sporkful had some crispy bacon bits and actual flavor. This has better taste and texture than the continental breakfasts offered at most hotels nowadays. Sure, you can tell it's not freshly cooked, but if you had access to a freshly cooked meal or the ease to make it, you wouldn't be packing dehydrated meals. So I highly recommend these for the convenience of packing light when the adventures you're planning don't include access to a fully stocked kitchen.

I enjoy these. I always bring 2 packages on my annual 8-day JMT backpacking trips. They provide a nice change from my usual Oatmeal-and-almonds, though they have fewer calories. Yes, they don't have the texture of pan-scrambled eggs (such as OvaEasy), but you don't have to carry (or wash) a pan. Like other freeze-dried meals, I've found I can fit a lot more in the bear canister if I repackage them in zip-lock plastic bags. I sometimes add dried parmesan cheese when I do that.

love this product. i bring these for backpacking, car camping, cross-country travel. traveling with a Jetboil is compact and easy to boil up water for these.

This is my favorite freeze dried food I take on my wilderness excursions, I look forward to eating it every morning while out there. Though I will say it doesn't seem to be as good as it was like five years ago, but then what is these days? Some mention excess water and crunchy centers. Your water wasn't hot enough or you didn't wait long enough. Keep in mind depending on your climate, altitude etc.. times may differ. But I don't "cook" mine in the bag, I put mine in a small bowl from my mess kit with boiling water, let it absorb for the recommended period and then actually cook the eggs with heat. It removes the excess water and gives the eggs a bit more of the normal whole food flavor. It's also important to keep in mind when in hot and or humid climates, eating still dry freeze dried food takes water from your body to digest. I will agree with another comment I read that said the texture is a little weird. It is but as someone who has food texture proclivities it doesn't bother me much at all. A different texture should be expected when all moisture is removed from something and then quickly forced back in much later. Oh I also use filtered river or stream water when I make them. Throw in a pinch of salt and pepper..boom a pretty good breakfast for being in the woods.

There are a lot of freeze dried foods that I really love. I'm sad to say that the scrambled eggs and bacon is not on that list. The texture and the taste is a little weird.

Excellent for on the go if you’re interested in hiking or biking or going camping

I bought a 3-day emergency kit years ago. After a hurricane came through a few days ago, a significant portion of the area is it without power. With no way to keep perishables, I thought it was a good time to try this. I found the scrambled eggs with bacon surprisingly tasty. And I will restock it for my emergency kit.

I added 6 oz. water, stirred. Let sit 6 minutes, before stirring again. Let sit 5 more minutes. Scrambled Eggs with bacon were not soupy. Had a little bit of water which I stirred and ate with the eggs.

We had an electric outage a year ago and opened some of the individual meal packages. Grandson who was 19 wanted to try the Beef stroganoff. HE LOVED IT and it is good. I buy Mountain House for my sons, so they have food at their house if they have an outage or other disaster. The Eggs and Bacon are good too. Freeze dried is just that and will not be exactly like fresh cooked. These are all most like fresh cooked.
