Rated 2 out of 5 by from Only Average Purchased these after having owned three pairs of the previous Hedgehog model. These do not have the same arch support, and although all of the same size (supposedly), this new model is shorter. I realized this at the time of purchase, but the next size up was just too large, and I figured the shoes would stretch some over time. I work on my feet and really appreciate shoes that are supportive, light-weight and comfortable. Within a month of having purchased this new model, I was again looking for new shoes. Unfortunately, I can't find any of the previous-model Hedgehogs anywhere.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Hedgehog GTX is a premium low Hiker I have the Storm low waterproof and enjoyed them so well I purchased the Hedgehog as a second low hiker. This shoe is very stylish and a great looking shoe, but I did not purchase it for style. It has several features that make it a serious hiker. First of all the sole is good and stiff and has excellent traction. Second the Gore-Tex liner is waterproof and it breaths very well so the shoe is not hot. Some waterproof shoes tend to be hot. The shoes are comfortable, but did not feel soft or comfortable until they had been worn a few times. If you want a softer shoe get one of the trail running shoes such as the Ultra 109 or others. This is my third pair of TNF low shoes and so far they have been very durable. If you are looking for a low waterproof hiker, give the Hedgehog GTX a look.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Favorite hiking shoes, but one small problem These are my second pair of Hedgehogs, the first pair I had for about two years before the toe rubber started coming undone. These are updated and have the stitching further up on the toe with durable rubber going higher up - totally fixing the issue. The one problem I have with these shoes is that the shape of them is a too pinched where the Achille's tendon touches the shoe. The rest of the shoe looks brand new, but there are already holes worn into this area. Plus, they have started to give up support in the area, leading to mild tendinitis if I go on long hikes with them. I wish the shape was a little less pinched in this area and more durable there - although to be fair, my tendons are probably thicker than average. If you don't have thick tendons - I would recommend these highly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from North face footwear rules! This is my second pair of North Face boots. I have a pair of winter boots that I absolutely love, and have been looking for a good set of light hikers. I tried Merrel, Oboz, Solomon, and several others, but never found anything that fit quite right or had the sturdiness I was looking for. I wanted something tough, comfortable enough to wear every day but able to tackle trails and rocks on the weekend. I live in Utah, 10 min away from some amazing hikes, and my Nike's just weren't good enough. They bent, they were meant for running, and had almost NO arch support. These North Face shoes felt amazing since I put them on. Can't believe it took me so long to find them, especially since I already had winter boots that I love.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from After lots of hiking in this shoe, I am a fan. I have hiked in these shoes from day one. My hikes have included cold weather, hot weather, flat terrain, water crossings, rocky terrain, and very steep terrain. I have owned them for about 6 months. I used to wear a Merrill Moab Waterproof, and these are superior. First, you should be aware that these have very little cushion in them, I was surprised to see that and it turned me off at first, until I started to wear them. I was shocked to find them very comfortable despite the lack of padding. The best compliment I can give a hiking shoe is that they simply vanish, meaning you forget about them while you're wearing them because they just work perfectly. They are lighter than the Merrills, which is a big advantage. They are also very tough, I have not been gentle on them and they are holding up like a champ. My main draw to them was the metal lace loops, something you don't find on many low rise hiking shoes. The GoreTex is fantastic, waded through a stream recently, socks were bone dry, even after I stood in the water for a while. I have also done many high temperature hikes in them, my feet stay cool (good socks also help). Bottom line, I would buy these again and I have no problem telling a friend or family to do the same.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Laces Break Every 2 Months 1st set of shoe laces broke after 2 months of day to day use at a desk job. The replacement laces from North Face just broke after 2 months (They were also excessively long so I had to triple knot them). 3rd set is on its way. The metal eyelets that the laces travel through have a sharp edge that causes the lace sheathing to wear down and eventually break. The edges should have a larger radius. The laces of my previous pair of North Face shoe lasted the life of the shoe (4 - 5 years). They did not have metal eyelets. Josh from Customer Service: "Good Morning, thank you for contacting The North Face, Shoelace's, such as the ones we use in our hiking shoes, are just like a piece of kermantle accessory cord, with a inner nylon woven core and a nylon sheath. As with any piece of cord, especially one that is used every day, they will wear out from use." I guess it's perfectly acceptable for laces to last 2 months at a desk job with a hiking shoe.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent hiking shoe. I marked that the shoes feel wider, I did not buy a wide, but this shoe fit me like a wide size, which is great. I typically wear a wide, and have a very hard time finding any trail/hiking shoes in a wide. Its a great shoe, light, and breathes well, I did not feel like my feet were overheating in a shoe that doesn't breathe. So that is great given the waterproof nature of the shoes. I have a bad ankle that the shoe rubbed on a little on the outside, the ankle cutouts might be a little high for some. Moleskin cured that issue for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome! I'm a nurse and a martial artist with a very busy schedule. I only use what I know is going to work in my very fast paced life. Got to admit I love the style of these shoes, but what I appreciate even more is their sturdiness and comfort. I wear these shoes daily no matter what activities I'm engaged in, and my feet thank me for it!
